Town Lane Infant School Travel Plan Mission Statement
Town Lane Infant School is committed to promoting sustainability of the environment and healthy lifestyles for its pupils. We take every opportunity to encourage pupils and their families to take responsibility for their impact upon the future of our planet. Through information, education and participation we aim to ensure the right choices are made by our families to ensure their travel supports the best possible future for all

The School Travel Situation
We at Town Lane Infant School wish to offer our children the healthiest and safest means of travel to school and to have an impact upon the travel choices made by families at other times. Through information, education and participation we endeavour to reduce the negative impact of car use on the environment and community. Through our School Travel Plan we intend to reduce car use and develop safer routes to school and around the local community; to promote use of cycles for all our pupils and reduce reliance on cars therefore improving the health of the nation.
The School Travel Plan will:
- Include the input and opinions of the whole community through consultation
- Develop decision making skills of pupils through curriculum work- PSHE
- Educate children on the impact of our actions on ourselves and the environment –PE, Geography & PSHE
- Increase opportunity for links with the community through Community Forum Meetings and Meetings with Community Police (hosted by school). Act as information point for community.
- Promote a healthy lifestyle through PSHE & Healthy Schools link
- Strengthen and support the local community by inclusion and increased desire of residents to walk in the neighbourhood
- Increase confidence in, and use of, public transport through sharing information
- Develop ‘Respect in the Community’ through links with LEA initiative
- Improve safety in the community through the installation of CCTV helping with identification of those perpetrating anti-social behaviour and therefore reduction of ASB.
